The game is part of the Greenbrier Tip-Off that also includes an already announced four-game event scheduled for Nov. 21-23, which features four power conference men’s programs in Butler, Virginia, Northwestern and South Carolina.

Intersport, a Chicago-based sports marketing and events agency, is the owner and operator of the Greenbrier Tip-Off and will manage all games under the event umbrella, including the West Virginia-Duke contest.

The Greenbrier has become synonymous with world-class, authentic, southern hospitality. Founded in 1778, the resort is the premium vacation destination fit for any personality, from luxury shopping and dining experiences to championship-level golf and other outdoor adventures. The Mountaineers and Blue Devils have played twice previously, with Duke earning victories in both 1995 and 1996 as part of a home-and-home series.

Duke earned its way to the Elite Eight last season, its first appearance in the regional final since 2013. The Blue Devils finished last season with 29 victories and a No. 7 ranking in the final Associated Press poll. Led by sixth-year head coach Kara Lawson, who owns a 97-41 mark in her tenure, Duke returns a trio of All-Conference honorees. The group is highlighted by ACC Freshman of the Year and First-Team All-ACC performer Toby Fournier, second-teamer Ashlon Jackson and All-Defensive Team member Jadyn Donovan.

“We are thrilled to make the trip to White Sulphur Springs to compete against West Virginia in the Greenbrier Tip-Off,” said Lawson. “Each year we strive to put together a rigorous non-conference schedule to prepare ourselves for ACC play, and this matchup provides another tremendous opportunity to showcase our team against a quality opponent.”

The Mountaineers are coming off consecutive 25-win seasons in the first two years of the Mark Kellogg Era in Morgantown. Kellogg has averaged nearly 25 wins per year through his first 10 years as a head coach, totaling a 245-71 overall mark. West Virginia advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season, led by All-Big 12 honoree Jordan Harrison, the team’s second-leading scorer at nearly 14.0 ppg and leader in assists (148) and 3-point percentage (36.9). Last season, the Mountaineers appeared as high as No. 12 and finished No. 21 in the AP poll.

“We are honored to participate in the Greenbrier Tip-Off and to compete against Duke in a premier non-conference matchup,” said Kellogg. “This event provides a tremendous platform to showcase our team early in the season, and we are grateful for the opportunity to represent West Virginia at such a historic place like the Greenbrier. Our team is excited for the challenge, and we look forward to competing at a high level.”

In 2023, Intersport and The Greenbrier entered into a long-term partnership to bring major college basketball to the mountain resort destination. On Nov. 17, 2024, Radford and Navy squared off in the first women’s college basketball contest held at the resort.
