Mountain Division Action Commences on Friday
The 2025 Skechers Greenbrier Tip-Off continues with Mountain Division action beginning Friday, November 21, at 2 p.m. Two games will be played on Friday, followed by two more on Sunday, also starting at 2 p.m.
Three teams—South Carolina, Virginia, and Northwestern—enter with perfect 4-0 records, while Butler sits at 3-1. Combined, these four teams hold a 15-1 mark.
Butler faces South Carolina in Friday’s opening game at 2 p.m. Butler enters at 3-1, while South Carolina brings an unbeaten start built on steady inside scoring and limiting second-chance opportunities. The Bulldogs are led by guard Finley Bizjack (15.0 ppg) and forward Michael Ajayi (11.8 rpg). The Gamecocks boast three players in double figures: Meechie Johnson (14.5 ppg), freshman guard Eli Ellis (13.5 ppg), and wing Mike Sharavjamts (11.5 ppg, 6.0 rpg).
Northwestern and Virginia follow at 5 p.m. in a matchup built on precision. Both teams are undefeated and have relied on disciplined defense for their early-season success. Virginia has been especially stingy around the basket, while Northwestern has excelled at limiting clean perimeter looks. The Wildcats are paced by forward Nick Martinelli (20.5 ppg), junior forward Arrinten Page (8.2 rpg), and playmaker Jayden Reid (5.8 apg). For UVA, Thijs De Ridder leads in scoring (17.2 ppg) while Johann Grunloh leads in rebounding (7.5 rpg).
Sunday’s slate reshuffles the pairings. Butler and Virginia meet in a clash that pits Butler’s interior scoring against a Virginia defense that has allowed very little at the rim through four games. Northwestern’s matchup with South Carolina brings together two confident offenses and two defenses that have shown the ability to close games strong.
