Short-Handed West Virginia Stuns Duke, 57-49

The West Virginia Mountaineers knocked off No. 15 Duke 57-49 on Friday night in the opening game of the Greenbrier Tip-Off, rallying from a halftime deficit and playing just five players the entire second half.

After an on-court altercation led to the ejection of seven players, including six from West Virginia – four of which were starters, the Mountaineers outscored the Blue Devils 37-26 in the second half to earn the eight-point victory.

Sydney Shaw, the lone starter to play the second half for the Mountaineers, led West Virginia with 16 points and seven rebounds to lead all scorers while Celia Riviere, who on the season has totaled eight points in 24 minutes, finished the game with 12 points in 22 minutes of action.

West Virginia moves to 4-0 on the season, while Duke falls to 2-2.
