The Greenbrier Tip-Off will add to its women’s college basketball slate on Nov. 13-14 with matchups featuring West Virginia, Northwestern and Appalachian State inside Colonial Hall at The Greenbrier. West Virginia will face Northwestern Nov. 13 and Northwestern will take on Appalachian State on Nov. 14.

The matchups are part of the Greenbrier Tip-Off, which brings marquee college basketball games to one of the country’s most iconic resort destinations.

Intersport, a Chicago-based sports marketing and events agency, is the owner and operator of the Greenbrier Tip-Off and will manage all games under the event umbrella.

November’s matchup will mark the fifth all-time meeting between West Virginia and Northwestern, with the Wildcats holding a 3-1 advantage in the series. In the most recent meeting, Northwestern rallied from an 18-point deficit to defeat West Virginia, 56-54, on March 27, 2019, at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, W.Va. The victory came in the third round of the Postseason WNIT and sent the Wildcats to the tournament quarterfinals.

The Mountaineers are coming off one of the most successful seasons in program history, propelled by a victory over No. 15 Duke in last season’s Greenbrier Tip-Off in front of a capacity crowd. Other highlights include the program’s second Big 12 Championship title and first since 2017. WVU defeated top-seeded TCU, 62-53, in the 2026 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship game to secure the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Mountaineers advanced to the NCAA Second Round before falling to Kentucky, 74-73. The squad will be led by returning guard Gia Cooke, who averaged 15 points a game last season.

“We’re honored to play in the Greenbrier Tip-Off for the second straight season and to face a quality opponent like Northwestern,” said West Virginia head coach Mark Kellogg. “It’s a tremendous early-season opportunity for our program. Representing West Virginia at such a historic venue, in front of our fans in the southern part of the state, means a lot to our program. Our group is excited and ready to embrace the challenge.”

Northwestern enters a new era under head coach Carla Berube, who was named the Wildcats’ head coach in March 2026 after seven seasons at Princeton. Berube led the Tigers to 147 wins, five Ivy League championships and five NCAA Tournament appearances, establishing Princeton as one of the nation’s most consistent programs before taking over at Northwestern.

The Wildcats return their second-leading scorer from a year ago in guard Casey Harter, who averaged 10 points per contest with 25 starting nods. Four high-major transfers also join the fold in guard Camdyn Nelson (Syracuse), forward Lexi Blue (Kentucky), guard Lily Carmody (Boston College), and forward Jasmyn Cooper (Syracuse).

“We look forward to competing in the Greenbrier Tip-Off this November in White Sulphur Springs,” said Northwestern head coach Carla Berube. “The opportunity to play a pair of challenging non-conference matchups at a venue laden with tradition will be invaluable in helping us prepare for our Big Ten Conference schedule.”

Northwestern and Appalachian State will meet for the first time.

Appalachian State is led by head coach Alaura Sharp, who enters her third season at the helm of the Mountaineers. Before arriving in Boone, Sharp guided Presbyterian to its first NCAA Tournament berth and first NCAA Tournament victory in March 2024. In her first season at App State, she helped the Mountaineers produce the best start to Sun Belt play in program history.

App State returns two key contributors from last season. Guard Daisia Mitchell started 29 games and ranked second on the team with 10.5 points per game while adding 3.9 rebounds per contest. Forward Addie Biel appeared in 28 games off the bench and averaged 6.6 points and 2.7 rebounds.

The Mountaineers also added guard Jadyn Atchinson from UT Arlington and forward Torin Rogers from UNC Wilmington. Both started the majority of their teams’ games last season.

“Taking part in The Greenbrier Tip-Off is a great opportunity for our program. We are excited to play in a venue that will attract our fans and supporters,” said Sharp.

In 2023, Intersport and The Greenbrier entered into a long-term partnership to bring major college basketball to the mountain resort destination. On Nov. 17, 2024, Radford and Navy squared off in the first women’s college basketball contest held at the resort, while West Virginia and Duke met at The Greenbrier in 2025.
